Infinitive vs. gerund: What are they and when are they used?<\/h2>

One of the great challenges that non-native students face is, precisely, understanding the infinitive vs. gerund<\/strong>. They are not the same! The gerund <\/strong>They are the verbs ending in -ing<\/strong>, while the infinitive has the following construction: To + base verb<\/strong>It is worth noting that both have specific uses and can completely change the meaning of a sentence if not used correctly. <\/p>

What is the gerund?<\/h3>

  • As a complement to a preposition<\/strong>, as is the case with \u201cHe is interested in learning Spanish\u201d.<\/li><\/ul>

    What is the infinitive?<\/h3>

Sometimes, both the infinitive <\/strong>like the gerund <\/strong>can follow certain verbs<\/strong>, but changing the meaning of the sentence.
